Aligning Expansion

Expansion occurs when multiple timeframes are aligned in a single direction. Ideally, expansion candles exhibit small wicks across these timeframes. In the example below, the lower timeframe has created a protected swing. Its timeframe pairing is aligned for expansion, as it displays a small wick. The higher timeframes also show small wicks, indicating that expansion is supported across multiple timeframes, creating the conditions for a true expansion move.

In this example, the highest timeframe supports expansion, as it exhibits a small wick. On the middle timeframe, a reversal candle forms, establishing the setup for the subsequent expansion candle. The lowest timeframe has created a protected swing, providing an invalidation level for the expansion trade.

In this variation, the highest timeframe supports expansion, as does the middle timeframe, while the lowest timeframe has formed a reversal candle that also creates a protected swing. All candles are aligned in support of the expansion move.
